Fire Alarm Servicing & Maintenance
Six-monthly professional servicing to BS 5839, weekly test support and full logbook management — including systems we didn't install.
What the standard expects
BS 5839-1 recommends that a fire alarm system is inspected and serviced by a competent person at least twice a year — in practice, six-monthly visits. That sits alongside routine checks the building's own staff carry out:
- Weekly — test one manual call point (rotating through them week by week) and confirm the alarm sounds. Record it in the logbook.
- Daily — a quick visual check that the panel shows normal status with no faults.
- Six-monthly — professional service and inspection.
What our service visit covers
- Full panel checks: batteries, charger, fault indication and power supplies
- Testing of detectors and manual call points on the rotating schedule
- Sounders, beacons and voice alarm output verified
- Cause-and-effect verified — door releases, plant shutdowns, lift homing
- Interfaces to monitoring and ancillary systems checked
- Faults reported clearly, with a quotation for any remedial work
- Certificate issued and your logbook updated
Taking over a neglected system
We regularly adopt systems that have fallen behind — missing records, unresolved faults, or no servicing history at all. We start with a survey establishing what you actually have and where it falls short, then give you a clear plan to bring it back into compliance. You do not need to have used us for the original installation.
False alarms matter
Unwanted alarm signals waste fire service resources and, worse, train occupants to ignore the alarm. Where a site suffers repeat false alarms we investigate the cause — detector type and siting, environmental factors, contamination or ageing devices — and put a fix in place rather than simply resetting the panel.
